CamDocUK Membership

1. Who is eligible to be a member?

Membership is open to all Cameroonian Doctors and Dentists.

2. How much does membership cost?

Members pay an annual due of £80. When joining us for the first time, you’ll also need to pay a one-off £30 registration fee. For students and retired doctors, we offer reduced annual dues of £20 and £60, respectively.

3. What are the advantages of becoming a member?

There are numerous advantages of being a member of CamDocUK:

  • Our members support each other professionally and socially. New members receive support to help with the PLAB exam, settle in the UK and apply for their first job. CamDocUK also provides mentoring and coaching for members to help them with career progression e.g. improving performance, applying for specialist training posts and clinical excellence awards.
  • Membership also gives you access to formal and informal educational events. This includes educational workshops during the annual general meeting as well as case-based discussions via email and WhatsApp.
  • We have at least 3 face-to-face meetings a year and also support each other during good times and difficult periods e.g. bereavement or performance-related issues at work. We also use the meetings to socialize, network and have fun.
  • By joining CamDocUK, you will be part of a community that is making a difference and transforming lives of Cameroonians in the UK and in Cameroon. CamDocUK and members are respected members of the Cameroonian community because of the impact of the work they do. We raise funds and improve the health of Cameroonians in the UK and in Cameroon.  For example, we have collected and donated equipment to hospitals in Cameroon. We have also taught in medical schools in Cameroon and recently raised funds to support refugees in Nigeria who have been affected by the conflict in Cameroon.

4. Does membership automatically mean you can work in Cameroon or in the UK?

No.  CamDocUK is not involved in licensing of doctors. To work in Cameroon you need to apply and obtain registration from the Cameroon Medical Council. A number of members of CamDocUK are UK representatives of the Cameroon Medical Council and can advise you about how to register with the Cameroon Medical Council. Please contact our Secretary General who can put you in touch with the appropriate members. To work in the UK you need to apply and obtain registration from the General Medical Council. CamDocUK members can provide advice to help you avoid common pitfalls.

5. How do I become a member?

Contact us! This will give you a feel of how we interact both informally and on a professional level. Our ordinary meetings are held on the first Saturday of March and October, and the location rotates depending on which member volunteers to host. The Annual general meeting takes place in June or July and is a big event organized by the Social Committee led by the Social and Communications secretary and culminates in a big Gala party.
